- //Sid: The Master and Ruler of the World
Blogs
While Shawn Michaels is my absolute favourite and Hulk Hogan comes in a close second, there is one guy who is pretty close to the top of my favourites list. This is a man who first came on my screens in 1989 and looked like he could take on the world, all at once. Standing a near 7 feet tall with the physique of a Greek God, Sid Vicious quickly became one of the Superstars I would look out for each and every week.

With Dan Spivey he was devastating as the Skyscrapers, but on his own he was a one man wrecking machine. After obliterating his unfortunate opponent with an airplane spin and then the most brutal powerbomb in all of Sports Entertainment, he would drop to his knees, arms reaching towards the heavens and proclaim to be the ‘Master and Ruler of the World’ – who was going to argue?
There was nothing fancy about Sid, but there didn’t need to be. Here was someone who looked like a monster, carried himself as a Superstar and could strike the fear of hell into anyone with one of those icy cold stares. In the rare circumstance that you weren’t convinced, he’d make sure you knew of his intentions with some amazing promos that would have his opponent and anyone watching running for a change of underwear.
Forget your 1,000 holds or your triple twisting upside down flipdrivers – Sid, with one single move and look out to the crowd, did more to get people interested in his matches than most wannabe Superstars could ever dream over. There were no wasted moves with Sid, everything was done for a reason and to great effect.
In WCW he had some fantastic matches against Lex Luger, Sting, Scott Steiner, Goldberg, Road Warriors and many more. Once in WWE he gave us one of the most heinous attacks of all time when he attacked Shawn Michaels on Raw after WrestleMania 11. After giving HBK three thunderous powerbombs, estranged friend Diesel was forced to come out from the back to make sure Sid could do no more damage. If Diesel had not come to Shawn’s rescue his career would have been over, because Sid would not have stopped.
I could go on to talk about the many great matches Sid had with Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, Diesel, Razor Ramon, Bret Hart, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Vader and Undertaker, but what I’d really love to see is the giant man from West Memphis return to WWE and be an unstoppable force once again. Depending on his mood, can you imagine the impact he’d have if he turned up on Raw to destroy Randy Orton, or paid a visit to SmackDown to put Christian back on the injury list?
Sid was one of the most incredible Superstars to ever set foot inside the squared circle and he could be once again.

You failed to mention that he was I believe the first ever wrestler to kick out of Hulk Hogan's leg drop of doom (@wrestlemania 8).
Like you I held Sid close to me as one of my favourite wrestlers as well, The Dont try this at home concept when i was young did not obviously apply and I always modelled 'my wrestler' on Sid's Character and because of my height and size the Powerbomb was always my finishing move; something I still use with my wrestler to this day within the safety of the THQ WWE Games of course.
