Blogs
There is always lots of discussion as to what is the best WWE DVD - well look no further, I’m here to give you the best 10 WWE DVDs currently available. I thought about titling this blog ‘My Top 10’ but then realised that ‘The Top 10’ highlighted the fact in my words, and I don’t want anyone thinking it’s just mere opinion.

Brian Pillman Loose Cannon
Brian Pillman was a revolutionary wrestler, bringing cruiserweight wrestling to the US years before it became cool in the mid 1990s. This documentary charts the life and career of one of the most charismatic and brilliant Superstars who has ever set foot in the squared circle. Brian Pillman was a pioneer, and his style of cutting edge talk is one that we still see used in full effect of today. This DVD is an amazing combination of brilliant Superstar profile and tremendous matches.
Match Recommendation: vs. Jushin 'Thunder' Liger from WCW Nitro - 04/09/95
Survivor Series 1987 & 1988
The traditional Survivor Series elimination match is one of the simplest yet brilliant types of match ever devised, and when you have 5 tag teams facing off against another 5 tag teams, full of feuding duos, well, it’s just utter brilliance. The 10 team elimination match from 1988 is one of the greatest matches of all time, and the one from 1987 isn’t far behind. Throw in the start of the Mega Powers bust-up and this set is just exquisite.
Match recommendation: The Powers of Pain, The Rockers, The British Bulldogs, The Hart Foundation, and Jim Powers & Paul Roma vs. Demolition Axe & Smash, Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard, Nikolia Volkoff & Boris Zuhkov, Raymond & Jacques Rougeau, and The Conquistadors
The Rise and Fall of WCW
This is the fascinating story of the number 2 promotion that for a fleeting moment was actually number 1. While it didn’t have the same wow factor as WWE it certainly had a charm of its own, which many loved up to its demise in 2001. This is the incredible story of World Championship Wrestling and the matches that made it so special.
Match recommendation: NWA United States Tag Team Championship Match - The Midnight Express vs. The Southern Boys - Great American Bash – July 7, 1990
WrestleMania 25th Anniversary Blu-ray
This is not a DVD but had to be included in this list as an incredible example of WWE in high definition, which takes video and audio quality to the next level, and then some! It was the 25th anniversary of the biggest event in wrestling history and what an amazing event it was. Including arguably the greatest match of all time, this is a must for anyone with a Blu-ray player and is reason enough to get a Blu-ray player this Christmas. As well as the PPV there is also the 2009 Hall of Fame which sees the legendary Stone Cold Steve Austin and Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat, amongst others, get inducted.
Match recommendation: Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker
Raw The Beginning: Seasons 1 and 2
One of the longest running shows in television history and without doubt the best wrestling show that has ever been produced. This series takes you back to the very beginning, and brings you all the action from 1993 and 1994. Watch as the likes of Shawn Michaels, Mr Perfect, Bret Hart, Razor Ramon and Randy Savage put on wrestling clinics, but also marvel at the strange antics of Doink the Clown and Duke “The Dumpster” Droese. Once started you won’t be able to stop until you’ve watched all 4 discs, and then you’ll be praying for the release of the next in the series.
Match recommendation: WWE Championship Match - Bret Hart vs. The 1-2-3 Kid - July 11, 1994
The Monday Night War
One side had Vince McMahon, DX, The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. The other side had Ted Turner’s billions, Eric Bischoff, the nWo, Sting and Goldberg. Wrestling changed in the mid-late 90s and has never been the same since. We live in the aftermath of a War, one that took place on our TV sets on a Monday night. This gripping documentary will have you open mouthed in awe at what transpired and what each side did to try to get ahead. Arguably the most prolific period in sports entertainment history and all the juicy details are brought to you on this DVD.
Match recommendation: Stone Cold Steve Austin & Shawn Michaels vs. British Bulldog & Owen Hart
Breaking The Code: Behind The Walls of Chris Jericho
Quite simply, the greatest Superstar documentary that WWE has ever produced. A bold statement, but a true one. Few have done more than Chris Jericho, in a career that started over 2 decades ago and still has more to come. Accompanying this amazing look at The Lionheart are 2 discs of brilliant matches from ECW, WCW, WWE, SMW and even Japan.
Match recommendation: International Junior Heavyweight Championship Match vs. Ultimo Dragon - Japan July 7, 1995
King of the Ring 2001 and InVasion
When WWE bought WCW in 2001 it kick-started the brilliant Invasion storyline which had an impact at King of the Ring and gave way to the ground breaking Invasion PPV. At King of the Ring you also get the chance to see Kurt Angle wrestle in 3 matches, one of which is a breath taking street fight against Shane McMahon. The InVasion event featured WWE wrestlers fighting for their lives against the newly formed alliance of ECW and WCW. The main event featured a 5 on 5 Inaugural Brawl elimination match that will leave you speechless.
Match recommendation: 10-Man Tag Team Match - Dudley Boyz, Rhyno, Booker T & Diamond Dallas Page vs. Undertaker, Kane, Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle & Stone Cold Steve Austin
Allied Powers: The World's Greatest Tag Teams
I love tag team wrestling, and I always have. The hot tag to the partner on the outside, or the sneak double team behind the referee’s back – there’s so much to like about tag team wresting and the duos involved. My favourites were always the Midnight Express, Rockers, Steiner Brothers and New Age Outlaws. This awesome DVD profiles some of the most amazing teams and adds in some of the greatest matches of all time. You owe it to yourself to see this DVD set.
Match recommendation: Title vs. Title Match - Steiner Brothers vs. Hiroshi Hase / Kensuke Sasaki - Japan Supershow March 21, 1991
The Rise and Fall of ECW
Extreme Championship was special – its wrestlers were special, its fans were special and its story is special. This DVD is learning at its most fun and enjoyable, as we dig deep into what made ECW tick and why it holds that unique place in wrestling history. To this day there are still chants of “E-C-W“ in arenas around the world and after watching this DVD you’ll understand why.
Match recommendation: The Pit Bulls vs. Raven & Stevie Richards - 2 out of 3 Falls Dog Collar Match for the ECW World Tag Team Championship - Gangsta's Paradise - Philadelphia, PA - 16.09.95
So there’s the list of the 10 greatest WWE DVDs available today – well, strictly one Blu-ray and 9 DVDs, but let’s not get picky. I’m 100% certain I’m right, but I challenge you to pick your best 10 and explain why they are so great. I’ll even give away a DVD of your choice to the person who leaves the best answers – that’s if you’re not too much of a coward! Leave a comment with your list and reasons by December 10th to be in with a chance of winning.

My personal choice would be, in no particular order:
1) Bret Hart - The best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be.
This DVD will always have a place in my heart for the fact it was a mile stone to see it get released in the first place. I remember reading about it possibly happening and thinking it would some how get scrapped, then seeing the picture of Vince Mcmahon & Bret Hart on WWE.com and being so happy at the thought of finally having a WWE release of the 'Hitman'
The documentary had everything you hope for in a release. Heart felt comments, passion, and fantastic matches. A true must buy DVD. A inspirational look at a career which is paved in history.
Match Recommendations : Bret %u2018Hitman%u2019 Hart VS British Bulldog, Summerslam 1992
2) Tagged Classic : Royal Rumble 1999 & 2000.
This embodies the attitude era for me. The intensity and story telling at it's best. From Rock and Mankind to Cactus Jack and Triple H it has some fantastic matches. It also shows how different the superstars and roster can change in one year. Every collection needs it.
Match Recommendation : Street Fight : Triple H VS Cactus Jack
3) Survivor Series 2002.
Although Summerslam 2002 is normally talked about as being the best PPV of 2002 i have always enjoyed Survivor Series more. The location of MSG always makes a PPV seem so much more important. Every match is fantastic and the icon image of Shawn Micheals winnng the world heavyweight championship and returning to the WWE in that year is timeless.
Match Recommendation : The first ever Elimination Chamber
4) The rise & fall of ECW.
One of the most truthful and unbiased DVD%u2019s that has ever been released. ECW is something everybody seems to have an opinion on and each superstars gets a chance to speak about there experience and time there. ECW is something that revolutionised the wrestling world and had a fan base that never forgot about it%u2019s importance.
Match Recommendation: Rey Mysterio Jr VS Psichosis
5) Shawn Michaels: My Journey.
One of the best wrestlers of all time talking candidly about some of the most important moments in WWE history. It%u2019s almost impossible to pick a favourite Shawn Michaels match and to have a DVD collection with so many of them on is fantastic.
Match Recommendation : Shawn Michaels VS The Undertaker, Wrestlemania 25
6) Wrestlemania 26
A fond favourite in my collection due to the fact I was there live. Seeing Bret Hart on the grandest stage of them all after such a long absence is just such a feel good moment for the ages. Something no fan would of thought possible just a few years ago. From the WWE championship match to money in the bank to the incredible Shawn Michaels VS The Undertaker main event this is one of, if not the best, DVD release of 2010. That match had everybody standing on there feet and it brings back the same emotion witnessing it on DVD. Seeing Shawn%u2019s career end on the stage he always preformed best at is something to behold for every fan.
Match Recommendation : Shawn Michaels VS The Undertaker
7) Breaking the code: Behind the walls of Chris Jericho
No DVD has ever produced such a brilliant, candid interview and selection of matches from such a storied career which spans over some of the biggest wrestling promotions in history. This DVD has got it all.
Match Recommendation : Chris Jericho VS Shawn Michaels, Wrestlemania XIX
8) Hart & Soul.
One of my favourite DVD releases of all time. Shows the passion and struggle of what it takes to make it in world of professional wrestling. Seeing the effect and hold wrestling has had over so many members of one family is something which will probably never be seen ever again. The past and present of wrestling shows how everything comes full circle and how hard work always pays off, but often with a price.
9) Wrestlemania X7
Every match on this show is worth watching. When a PPV is so good you can watch a show from start the finish and is still timeless you know it%u2019s worth owning. The TLC match shows why the WWE is the best form of entertainment in the world. Stone Cold Steve Austin VS The Rock is one of the most memorable and icon matches of all time. The image of the two most important wrestles of all time in the main event on the biggest show of them all embodies what the WWE is all about. In front of such a huge crowd on such an important night is incredibly and gives me goose bumps every time I watch it.
Match Recommendations: Stone Cold VS The Rock
10) Royal Rumble 2008.
This Royal Rumble match is one of my favourites of all time. John Cenas return was something unexpected at a time when unpredictability is rare in wrestling. Hearing the reaction of the crowd when his entrance plays shows no matter what your opinions on him as a wrestler he always provokes a reaction and leaves you wondering what is about to happen next. The WWE Championship match between Jeff Hardy and Randy Orton marks Jeff%u2019s true arrival to the main events and him embarking on the next stage of his career, and what better place to do it than Madison Square Garden. The World Heavyweight Championship match between Edge and Rey Mysterio also shows how two very different superstars can have a fantastic match together. Every match on this event is to be remembered on the road to Wresltemania.
Match Recommendation : Jeff Hardy VS Randy Orton.

My personal Top 10 (in no order):
1. Raw 15th Anniversary - Many of Raw's most entertaining and memorable moments are included, such as Stone Cold confronting Mike Tyson, Austin attacking Vince McMahon in hospital, and The Rock Concert. In addition, there are several great matches, most of which hadn't been on a WWE DVD before. A great tribute to Raw, and the Attitude Era in particular.
Match recommendation: Shawn Michaels vs Shelton Benjamin, Raw, 02/05/2005 (Match recommendations refer to those I enjoyed the most on the DVD, as opposed to which may technically be the best)
2. Hulk Hogan: The Ultimate Anthology - An ideal DVD for any die-hard Hulkamaniac. Each phase of the Hulkster's career is covered: the early years of Hulkamania, including the Hogan vs Andre match from WrestleMania III; the memorable conflicts with Randy Savage and Ultimate Warrior; some material from his nWo days, including his Starrcade 1997 clash with Sting; and the rebirth of Hulkamania from 2002 onwards, beginning with Hogan vs The Rock and ending with Hulk vs Shawn Michaels. It's a shame that Hogan never faced Stone Cold one-on-one, especially if it had happened when Hogan first returned in 2002, as it would have made a DVD like this complete. However, this is still a great DVD for any Hulkamaniac.
Match recommendation: Hulk Hogan vs Randy Savage, WrestleMania V
3. The Ladder Match - Besides HBK vs Razor from WM X and the Triple Threat Tag match from WM 2000, virtually every memorable Ladder/TLC match pre-2007 is here, such as Bret vs Michaels (which I can remember first seeing on Smack 'Em Whack 'Em), the Shawn vs Razor rematch, the No Mercy 1999 tag team Ladder match, the original Money In The Bank and the Armageddon 2006 four-way, as well as all six TLC matches from 2000-2006.
Match recommendation: TLC II, WrestleMania X-Seven
4. Hell In A Cell - Almost every match on this DVD is worth watching. Some of these encounters were amongst the very best of their respective eras, and each is memorable for different reasons (Kane's debut; Mankind's falls through and off the Cell; the last PPV match between Triple H and Shawn Michaels; etc). It's also good to see the two Cell matches held on Raw on this DVD.
Match recommendation: The Undertaker vs Mankind, King Of The Ring 1998
5. WrestleMania 21 - I didn't expect much from WM 21 beforehand, but it turned out to be one of the most memorable 'Mania's ever. In the ring, Angle vs Michaels and Money In The Bank are the highlights, although Eddie vs Rey and Taker vs Orton are also good. In addition, Hulk Hogan, Rowdy Roddy Piper and Stone Cold Steve Austin all return, and John Cena and Batista usher in a new era in WWE. Add to this the 2005 Hall of Fame ceremony, and the WM 21 trailers, and this becomes one of the most enjoyable and action-packed DVDs around.
Match recommendation: Shawn Michaels vs Kurt Angle, WrestleMania 21
6. Shawn Michaels: From The Vault - At a time when WWE didn't produce 3-Disc DVDs, and most "profile" DVDs only featured highlights of matches, this one stood out. Unlike nowadays, when certain DVDs are missing matches that have appeared numerous times before, even if they were crucial to the performer in question, FTV has Michaels' most memorable matches of the 1990s, and his comeback match with Triple H at SummerSlam 2002.
Match recommendation: Shawn Michaels vs Triple H, SummerSlam 2002
7. WrestleMania X-Seven - Rarely does a PPV feature this many great matches. The McMahon's Street Fight, TLC II, Triple H vs The Undertaker and Stone Cold vs The Rock, as well as entertaining battles in the form of Kane vs Raven vs Big Show and the Gimmick Battle Royal. This is the WrestleMania that set the standard for each that followed/follows to live up to.
Match recommendation: Stone Cold vs The Rock, WrestleMania X-Seven
8. Mick Foley: Greatest Hits and Misses - A 3-disc version later came out, featuring matches from 2004-2006, but having purchased the original, this is the one I'll include. Foley's entire career is spanned, with WCW, ECW, SMW and WWE covered, as well as all three of Foley's alter egos in Mankind, Dude Love and Cactus Jack (and Mick Foley himself). A war of a tag team match against the Nasty Boys, a very entertaining battle with Stone Cold and the Street Fight against Triple H are just some of the memorable clashes included here.
Match recommendation: Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Dude Love, Over The Edge 1998
9. Bret Hart: The Best There Is, The Best There Was, The Best There Ever Will Be - A long-awaited DVD, this features a two-hour look at the Hitman's career, and many of his greatest matches (and he has had many). It was also the project that would lead Hart back to WWE after several years away, which would take in a Hall Of Fame induction in 2006 and his "proper" return in 2010.
Match recommendation: Bret Hart vs Mr Perfect, SummerSlam 1991
10. WrestleMania 24 - The main reason I've included this one is because it was the first WrestleMania I attended in person (I've since attended WM 26 as well), but there's no doubt that the event had several key matches, such as MITB IV, Floyd Mayweather fighting Big Show and two entertaining title matches. Although Ric Flair returning to action takes some meaning away from his match with HBK, it's still his best in years, and his last in WWE. This DVD also sees The Rock return and tear the house down at the 2008 Hall Of Fame, with some humorous insults at the expense of John Cena and Chris Jericho, amongst others.
Match recommendation: Ric Flair vs Shawn Michaels, WrestleMania 24
Honourable mention: WrestleMania 22, Tombstone: The History of the Undertaker, The Rise & Fall of ECW, The Rise & Fall of WCW, The Rock: The Most Electrifying Man In Sports-Entertainment
